Decibellas on Tour: Barcelona & Costa Brava - day 4

A slightly more leisurely start was just what was needed, with breakfast enjoyed at a civilized pace before we set off for Barcelona and our much-anticipated visit to the extraordinary Sagrada Família.

Nothing — and we mean nothing — quite prepares you for your first glimpse of Gaudí’s masterpiece. Often described as a “Bible in stone,” it’s a building that manages to be both vast and intricate, overwhelming and serene all at once. Inside, the light streaming through the stained glass created a kaleidoscope of colour that had everyone quietly wandering, slightly awestruck.

Armed with individual audio guides, we explored at our own pace — some lingering over details, others simply standing and staring upwards, wondering how on earth something so ambitious ever came to life.

Afterwards, there was time for lunch and a relaxed wander around the surrounding neighbourhood — a little shopping, a little people-watching, and the occasional “just one more photo” moment — before heading back to Calella.

A quick turnaround later, we were off again, this time to the Parròquia de Santa Maria i Sant Nicolau, a local church in the heart of town for our next performance. While more modest than some of our previous venues, it had truly beautiful acoustics — the kind that make you feel instantly at home. With the doors flung open onto the square, curious passers-by became an audience, and before long we had drawn a lively and appreciative crowd. We were billed as Decibellas de Inglaterra, so who could blame them for wanting to see such a well known national choir!

The concert itself went smoothly, with no dramas (a rarity worth celebrating). The response? Enthusiastic applause, cheers, and a generous sprinkling of “Brava!” — which, loosely translated, means we’ll take that as a win.

Post-dinner, the bar beckoned, and with it the now-familiar sounds of the hotel disco. This time, however, things took a different turn… we actually went in.

A few brave pioneers took to the dance floor first, encouraged by the ever-energetic resort staff — proudly branded as “Happiness Givers” (and to be fair, they delivered). Before long, more Decibellas joined in, embracing group dances, the Macarena, and a selection of classic Spanish hits.

And then, as all good dance floors demand, came a bit of ABBA — at which point any remaining hesitation disappeared and the floor was officially full.

It was joyful, slightly chaotic, and exactly what was needed — a perfect way to unwind after a busy few days and gather energy (or what was left of it) for the final concert ahead.
